More sizzling hot images!

We love these images of the lovely Alex, and thought it was high time we shared some more. Alex’s personality & energy are all over these shots–we can’t get enough!

We wrapped up our session at Frankie + Millie for a little bit of a different look. Thanks so much to Lea for letting us do this, and for the amazing wardrobe!

We just wrapped a morning of a modeling portfolio shoot with a talented young woman who will move to New York City in the fall to pursue her dreams of ballet. We got lots of amazing stuff, but here’s a sneak peek for now (essentially straight out of camera!):

Happy Anniversary to Bekah & Josh!

Hard to believe: one year ago, I was photographing my “baby” cousin’s wedding. Rebekah was one of the first kids I ever babysat, so it’s hard to believe she’s already so grown up!

Now, her hubby is serving in Afghanistan. I know they miss each other so much!

Happy Anniverary to Bekah & Josh. I hope your reunion comes soon!

My “big little” brother. Love this photo!!

Daddy-daughter dance:

And finally: the crazy, wonderful, hilarious De Avila family. I love everything about this photo, but perhaps most: my wee little Sofia, all chubby & cute in her wedding finest!

Such a cute little stinker!

We’re almost done editing the VSA spring class photos. We took the seniors in the fall; this time it was the little girls and the older community dance students.

We’ll share some images from the shoot tomorrow, but for now, this one keeps making me laugh!

If you can’t tell, she’s three years old and stubborn! Ha! What a little cutie.

Poplar Forest Donor Reception | Lynchburg, VA, Event Photographer

We were hired to photograph a private event at Poplar Forest, Thomas Jefferson’s vacation home. This time, both Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry made appearances–here, they’re enjoying a brief moment of private conversation, overlooking the grounds:

We were hired to photograph the guests during the cocktail hour, and despite a threat of rain, it proved to be a lovely evening. Here are a few favorites:

One of the key points of the evening was celebrating the completion of a wheelchair lift made possible by donations; previously, the historic, octagonal home was not accessible by wheelchair, so obviously this is a landmark addition that will finally allow the elderly and disabled persons to fully enjoy the property.

This was one of my favorites, from the very first time the lift was ever used:

Spring is finally in the air in Lynchburg. We wanted to share a slideshow with a wonderful, sunshine-y feel, in no small part because of the wonderful couple featured here. Dave & Kim are dear friends who are stinkin’ cute together. Their engagement session took place in two sessions: in their neighborhood (starring special guest Scout!) and then a few favorite downtown spots.

Thank goodness winter is finally drawing to a close–we just can’t wait to soak up more sun again!

Virginia School of the Arts – Dancers, Part 3

I don’t know about you, but we’ve had a weird month here at MDK Studio. The snow days, for starters: since when does Virginia get this much snow?! So we were closed for February’s First Friday at Riverviews, which means we’ll open up again in March for the final showing of the dance photography exhibit–prints of some of our favorites of the VSA images!

On top of the snow, I’ve got pneumonia. I’m doing ok, but have had to slow down for a bit. When it rains, it pours.

All of that to say: we’re really looking forward to March. And April. And spring, in general. Warm days, sunshine. Mmmm.

One more thing: we’re starting to line up our Senior Models from the local high schools and colleges.  Click on the link above for images of Stephanie, our model from E.C. Glass for this year. If you’re a rising senior (Class of 2011)  and are interested in a free senior picture session, give us a call! We’ll post more information about the Senior Model offer shortly.

And now: the final batch of images from the senior dancers at Virginia School of the Arts. We hope you’ve enjoyed the sneak peek at these talented dancers!

VSA Seniors – Sneak Peek 2 of 3

I hope you’re all staying warm out there! We’re surrounded by glittering snow out our windows, the aftermath of yesterday’s storm. We’re staying bundled up, and I think some hot chocolate is in order!

Grab a mug of your favorite indulgence, and take a look at the next set of VSA senior photos. In addition to dance poses, we took headshots for each student, so we’ll start to share some of these here.

Thanks for stopping by — enjoy these amazing dancers! We’ll have one last look later this week.

Dancers! Virginia School of the Arts Seniors, Part 1 of 3

We are oh so proud to bring this sneak peek to you. We were privileged to be chosen to photograph the senior dancers of Virginia School of the Arts. I can’t tell you how excited that made me!

I am a fan of VSA, for several reasons. For those who don’t know VSA, it’s a local preparatory school that trains teenagers from all over the world for professional dance careers, in a rigorous schedule of dance classes even as they attend the local high school during the year. These students are smart and oh so talented. And for those who don’t know me, ballet is the one thing I would do if I could choose anything in the world! The sight of a dancer en pointe still gives me chills.

So without further ado, here is part 1 of 3 previews of the senior photos! Enjoy!
